Freddie Frith OBE

Freddie Frith, 1909 – 1988, was the son of a Grimsby stonemason who went on to become a highly successful racer, the first ever 350cc World Champion, five-time TT winner, and the first man to record a 90mph lap of the TT course. He served in Keswick in WW2, teaching officers and NCOs how to ride. He was awarded an OBE in the 1950 Birthday Honours list. In Grimsby, his shop was THE place to go to look at and drool over the best motorcycles available, as a dealer stocking BMW, Moto Guzzi, Benelli, MZ and later Honda and Suzuki it was a magnet to motorcyclists. Situated in the former stonemason’s yard, it was also where I as a youngster would spend many hours looking and dreaming, and where later bought my first bike.
